Hi, this is my post for the interview i went for yesterday.
(LONG POST!!! BEWARE!!!(but please, readlah :P) )
My journey begins from Putra Heights, i tail-gated Teoh till CyberJaya, and reached there at 10:25am. My interview starts at 1pm. I called up Panjang, but he wasn't at CyberJaya, he's at his friend's house. So i decided to go around CyberJaya, but my petrol amount is not enough, im afraid if i dont make it back home. While waiting for the time to reach 1pm, i just read KOSMO paper. I kept reading it twice, till the time is 12:30. So i went in to HSBC. It was a HUGE building, very nice indeed. So i went to the reception table, and told the guard i came for interview. He told me to fill in some forms. So i did, as i filing it up, more and more people turned up.
It was 1pm, but still no one turned up. The HR person, Mr. Edwin Martin still haven't turned up yet. So much for "(Please ensure that you are here before 1.00 p.m. as our assessment/interviews sessions start sharp at 1.00 p.m.) ". Then this guy indian guy came. BIG, fierce looking guy. Want to know how he looked like?
Yes he looked like that, NO! He dont look like that, he's is THAT!!!He was quite strick, as he told us to fill in the form COMPLETE, or else your application will be canceled. There were 18 of us there, he brief about the form we filled in just now, and then he devided us into groups. 1 group 2 people. So he called out names, and ask us to put our hands on air. I was in Group 2, with this chinese girl, name Evon. She's a sweet person, polite, even before we were put together, when i was filling form, she asked me politely, she was looking for Mr. Edwin. So we talked, while waiting for the task. She's from Ipoh, and she studied in KTAR, Setapak, and UTAR, Sungai Long. She's a Degree holder. She asked me, if i was a Fresh Graduate, i told her not, since im not a so Fresh Graduate. Mr. Edwin call out Group 1, but one of the member was Away, so my group had to go in. So Evon and i was first to go in this small room, with another to people in there. 1 was a Malay Lady, and another is a Chinese guy.
The guy was the person who asks questions, and the lady writes something behind the untransparent thing she's holding. The guy talked like a robot. I mean, he smiles everytime, and he talks things so fast, and looked like it's been progammed in him. So he begin with him, asking me simple questions, here's what i remember off.
Interviewer: Mr. Melvin, can you please tell me of a colour you like (*smiles*)
Me: Black
Interviewer: What does it reminds you off (*smiles*)
Me: Mercedes Benz
Interviewer: Why black? (*smiles*)
Me: Because it looks Elegant
Then he asked the girl some other question, while i shutdown my brain. After that, he gave me a card, and in the card written something. He told me, in one minute time, please talk about the topic in that card. This is what written in the card. . .
Tell one of the best advertisement you saw
1.) What is it about?
2.) When and Where did you see it?
3.) Who was in the advertisement?
So with the 5 seconds given time, i think and think, and told the advertisement that i like was the Petronas advertisement. I talked about it, and one point i said something silly. I told i like the advertisement, because it breaks racially barrier. I cant believe i said that ,with 3 races in one room. But i forgotten the boy's name (Tan Hong Ming). Then in 1 minute time, i was stopped. Then it was Evon's turn. Her topic was about Favourite song. So she mention her favourite song was something-dont-know-because-dont-understand-chinese, sung by Jay Chou. Then she talked about Jay Chou. While she was talking there, something caught my attention. The interviewer's hands were shaking. Seriously, my hands were not shaking, same as Evon's but, why is this guy's hand shaking. I got confuse thinking bout it. After we're done, we were told to wait outside. So other groups went it.
As other groups finish, it was one on one, with Mr. Edwin. First was Evon's turn. She went it, and in 5 minutes she came out. She said she's going back, i didnt managed to ask if she got the job or not. Poor her, i hope she manage to find job soon. Then it was my turn. I went it. Then Mr. Edwin asked about myself. He asked questions which is difficult to answer. Like, "What if someone hires you much more, than what you earning now?" I seriously dont know how to answer this question. Then he asked, "What assurance you can give me, that you will stay here for 2 years?". As a Christian i decided to be honest, i told him, i wont promise, because if anything happens, then i wont be trusted anymore, and i'll be call liar. He asked, if i know how to use computer? I told him, i do. He ask how was my computer skills, i told, i can repair my own computer. He asked me to wait outside.
While i was waiting outside, there's this another chinese girl approached me. Her name was Leena. She came to take her offer letter, since she got the job. She went for interview last week. She's also from Perak, but Teluk Intan. She studied in UKM, Bangi. She talks quite slow, slow means slow, not the volume is low. While waiting, i chat with her. When i see both her and Evon's condition, i feel thankful to God for placing me here in Shah Alam, despite it's not near to CyberJaya, but at least my home is nearby. These people came all the way just to make living here. After 30 minutes (or more), a guy came, and called out my name. 4 of us, were to go up, first floor. As we walked to walkway, which resembles pentagon (the shape), we came to this big room. With computers in every row. We went to the end of the room, to this table, a high class malay lady there. She was friendly, introed her-self, and asked us our names. Then, she explain that now we're doing a typing test. We have to write 18 letters in 1 minute without any error, if 1 or 2, she will consider. You click the Start Clock button, type and when you're done, press Stop Clock.Sounds easy?
As she was explaining to us, she looked at this chinese guy. He was at one of his colleagues' table. She asked him what he was doing there? He explain something which i dont understand. Suddenly the woman raised her voice to the guy. Eventually he got scold! for not bringing his swap card. Serious, all of were looking at one another, and got scared. 1 minutes she was all nice and friendly, another minute, she was so scary. Then later, one of us (2 guys, 2 girls), girl was first to begin the test. She typed everything, and then she went searching for her typing if it has any errors, the lady saw it, and immediately got scolding for doing so. She then looked at us, and asked "is anyone of you dont understand what i just said?", all didnt answer. The second girl did, then it was another guy, apperantely he came for the interview before, and he failed at the lady, this is his second time. His errors were bout 6 or 7. Next was my turn. After seeing the lady, i decided to simply type, and get lots of errors. I type and type, but something hindering me from doing so. The thing i need to type is, something like below.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA Population ($bn) 45, 678 km ($PPP) (m) SINGAPORE Population ($bn) 12, 345 km (SPPP)
Something like that, you must make sure its the same, as in capital letters, brackets, number (which most of them failed), and the signs. So i press Stop Clock, and it says "You cannot stop the clock, unless you Start it first". I got scared, i didnt know what to do. In order to avoid the lady from scolding, i quickly, press OK, another new page appear, and i quickly type the same thing mentioned above. I was at the first paragraph, suddenly the woman came, she looked and asked me "Did you do a new one, again?" in quite loud tone. I replied "No, i press stop the clock, but it say
Once there ,she asked me to wait for outside. She went in with the guy, and talked to him. After 40 minutes or more, he came out, and went back. I went it. She asked me questions nicely, and after it went harder and harder. This time, i pur
Picture taken after interview. That's why face so oily and sour looking. Normally i not like this one.Teoh came early, and both of us had nice chat together. I learned many things from him, such as how to handle work, how to manage with your salary, about some people, music ministry, about myself, about marriage, and so onlah. It was good! I learned a lot! Then later about 7:30pm, we went back home.
